Jacksonville, FL – October 21, 2013

On Saturday, October 19th R2 Logistics’ associates joined in the Susan G. Komen “Race for the Cure”. Thousands of men and women from the Jacksonville area flocked to Metropolitan Park to raise awareness in finding a cure for breast cancer. The scary fact is approximately one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure was founded in 1982 by Nancy Brinker, who had promised her sister Susan G. Komen, who died of breast cancer, that she would work to find a cure. Since 1982, Komen for the Cure has invested $1.9 billion in searching for a cure to breast cancer. The first Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Jacksonville was held in 1994 in Jacksonville Beach.

“While participating in this event, I was envisioning everyone stepping out cancer together,” commented Tari Williams, an R2 Logistics Billing Auditor. “My fiancé lost one of his sisters last year on his birthday, and last month he found out his other sister has this awful disease. I don’t want anyone else to lose their life to cancer. Each day on this earth is a blessing and finding a cure will be an even bigger one.”

Jeanette Adkins, Carrier Services Supervisor, added, “I lost my aunt earlier this year to breast cancer, and it was a pleasure to be a part of the ‘Race for the Cure.’ It was amazing to see such a huge turnout and it was hilarious to see some of the men dressed in pink shirts, bras and wigs. I’m looking forward to taking part in this event for years to come!”
